Cabot Theater One of Several Historic Theaters for Sale Nationwide

There are several other historic theaters - some matching the grandeur of the Cabot Street Theater and also located in downtown areas - that are for sale across the country.

Cabot Street Cinema Theater isn’t the only historic theater for sale in the country right now.

It is one of at least five similar historic theater on the market, reports Curbed, an online real estate news website.

The downtown Beverly landmark was put up for sale last month for $1.35 million.

The theater was home to Le Grand David Spectacular Magic Co. for 35 years until the death of its founder, Cesareo Pelaez, in 2012. It still shows movies and plans to continue the evening film showings until it is sold.

Curbed said that the Cabot Theater is one of a few of the 20,000 downtown theaters from the 1920s that “survive in near-original condition.” The blog goes on to call the theater a “historic gem,” noting that interior, with cast-iron seating and stage have been “meticulously maintained” while the exterior has “been left to the elements.” The site also notes that the theater’s dedicated parking is “lacking,” with only 10 spaces.

Some of the other historic theaters for sale across the country include

  • New Regal Theater in Chicago, which has seen little use except for a party in 2008 to celebrate President Barack Obama’s win.
  • Ritz Theater in Newberry, S.C., which is priced at just $75,000.
  • Wilma Theater in Missoula, Mont., which is “nestled on the bottom floors” of a condominium building.
  • Golden State Theater in Monterey, Calif., which has recently reduced the sale price from $8 million to $5 million.
