Largest Ice Bucket Challenge Takes Place as Endicott Honors Pete Frates: PHOTOS

The university's newest dorm was named after the inspiring co-founder of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

The far-reaching impact of Pete Frates is being etched in stone at Endicott College.

The small private university in Beverly has named its newest dormitory Pete Frates Hall in honor of the inspiring Beverly native who was the driving force behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

Frates was diagnosed with ALS at 27. Four years later, he continues to make an impact in raising awareness and generating funds for ALS research.

"Today was a really, really good day to be a Gull," the university tweeted.

Approximately 1,500 students took part Tuesday in what the school says is the largest Ice Bucket Challenge to date.
