Obituary: George Henry Tingley; Carpenter, Active Member of Carpenter's Union Local 26, Served as President

World War II Veteran. Sergeant. Assigned to the 648th Tank Destroyer group, he arrived at Normandy and made it all the way to Germany.

George Henry Tingley, beloved husband of the late Patricia (Cronin) Tingley, with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage, died on January 9th he was 90. A life long resident of Beverly, he was born in Ipswich and raised in the Ryal Side section of the city, son of the late Henry R. and Mildred E. Tingley. A graduate of Beverly High with the Class of 1942, George served in the United States Army during WWII and attained the rank of Sergeant. Assigned to the 648th Tank Destroyer group, he arrived at Normandy and made it all the way to Germany.

Returning home, he found work as a carpenter and was an active member of Carpenter’s Union Local 26 where he served as past president and secretary. He retired from Conley Brothers Construction in 1986. A member of American Legion Spear Post #331, he enjoyed fishing and most especially helping others.

He is survived by his sons: Ronald G. Tingley of California, John H. Tingley and his wife Marcia of Acton, Wayne F. Tingley and his wife Kimberly of California; and his grandchildren: Kristen, Scott, Katie and Beverly Tingley. He was predeceased by his brothers James, Harvey and William.

Visiting hours will be held in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly on Friday, January 23 from 11AM to 1PM followed by a graveside service with military honors at the North Beverly Cemetery.
