Obituary: Marguerite A. (Johnston) Condon; Longtime Aide to U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Known as a Key Political Operative North of Boston
She was known for her great sense of humor and she will be deeply missed by her family, her friends and all who knew her.

Marguerite A. (Johnston) Condon, age 91 of Beverly, Mass. died surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 21st. She was the beloved wife of retired Beverly Postmaster, John F. Condon, Jr. with whom she shared more than 67 years of marriage. In addition to her husband she leaves her daughter Patricia Condon of Beverly, Suzanne Condon & her partner Lisa Varnerin, of Quincy, Julie Condon Howell& her husband Jon of Beverly and her son Christopher Condon & his wife Joan Falloni of Danvers. She was pre-deceased by her son, John F. Condon, III and her sisters, Julia Donahue, Kathryn Brown, Margaret Clarke and her brother Neil Brown. She also leaves her 5 grandchildren, John IV & his fiancé Jackie Miller, Megan, Caitlin, Patrick, Benjamin Condon and her great grandson, John Condon, V.
Marguerite’s husband, children, grandchildren & her entire extended family were most important to her, cherishing every family event & holiday celebration to spend time with those she loved. She also enjoyed numerous vacations, the beach & her cherished Mustang convertible.

Marguerite served as a longtime aide to U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy. She served as his eyes & ears on the North Shore, a role she played until the untimely death of the Senator in 2009. Aside from her family, Democratic Politics was her passion- she was often referred to as one the key political operatives north of Boston. She held leadership roles with the Beverly Democratic City Committee for many decades. Marguerite was known for her keen ability to analyze the political process & advised dozens of candidates over more than 50 years of active involvement in the Democratic Party.
She was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1941 and received her degree in Business from The Hawthorne Institute of Salem. Following her graduation she served as secretary to the Vice President of Sylvania in Salem, Ma. She worked for North Shore Community College President’s Office during the 1980’s & 1990’s ultimately working as the Administrative Assistant to Dean Forstrum until her retirement from NSCC..

Marguerite was also known for her devout faith in God. She served as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Mary star of The Sea church in Beverly from the 1970’s until 2014. She was a member of The Daughters of Isabella. She also severed on the board of director’s for North Shore Catholic Charities for many years. She was a religious education teacher for St. Mary Star of the Sea church. She was a longtime member of the Ward Two Civic Association in Beverly for many, many years.
