Right at Home Boston and North In-Home Care Agency Facilitates DementiaLiveTM Training in Beverly, MA
Right at Home Boston and North led DementiaLive for care professionals at Care One Essex Park in Beverly, MA
[Beverly, MA June 19, 2017] --On June 19th 2017, Right at Home Boston and North’s facilitators Celeste Begley, Community Relations Director and Victoria Guskiewicz, Community Relations Coordinator, led the DementiaLiveTM program to the care professionals at Care One Essex Park in Beverly, MA. Over twenty nurses, social workers and case managers attended the training.
To better understand the effects of dementia, attendees put on two pairs of gloves, a headset and pair of dark glasses to simulate the effects of dementia. They were sent to an “experience” room and asked to perform five tasks in seven minutes. The tasks included, buttoning a shirt, counting .37 cents from a wallet, folding pillowcases and dialing their number on a telephone.
“This is a unique opportunity for care professionals to learn what it feels like to have dementia”, said Celeste Begley, Community Relations Director for Right at Home Boston and North. “The gear is designed to alter participant’s sensory abilities. The eye-wear simulates age-related conditions such as cataracts and reduces peripheral vision, and the headset produces distorting noises.”
