Two Elected to Serve on Montserrat College Board of Trustees
Mercedes Sherrod Evans and Jeffery Hamilton Join Board As College Begins Preparing for 50th Anniversary
BEVERLY – Two new trustees have been elected to the board of Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, MA. The two, Mercedes Sherrod Evans and Jeffrey Hamilton, bring a wealth of expertise in diversity and finance to the 18- member Board of Trustees. They will both serve three-year terms.
President Kurt T. Steinberg, Ed.D. said he is excited to begin working with the two newest trustees as the college starts on a long-range plan and begins preparing for its 50th anniversary celebration in 2020-2021.
Mercedes Sherrod Evans of Cambridge is an attorney by training with a JD from Boston College Law School who also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania College for Women. Evans spent a good part of her career working in affirmative action and diversity compliance. She retired in 2018 as the Chief Diversity Officer for Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, having served in similar positions for Tufts University and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, among other agencies in the Commonwealth.

She is the co-chair of the Cambridge Human Rights Commission, Past President of the Cambridge, Arlington and Belmont Bar Association, a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association, American Council on Education - New England Chapter of Network of Women, Leaders in Education, Boston College Law School Black Alumni Association, Art Connection and the Mother Caroline Academy and Educational Center.
“I want to part of the transforming of student’s lives,” she said, upon learning of her election to the board.

Jeffrey Hamilton, an expert in financial management, founded 2G LLC, an investment company focusing on early stage growth capital, in fall of 2017. Prior to that, he retired from Goldman Sachs & Co. in May, 2017 following 17 years of service. During his time at Goldman Sachs he managed both the institutional client base as well as trading and compliance for the Equities business in Boston. Prior to Goldman Sachs, he spent six years with CIBC Oppenheimer in a similar capacity in both NY and Boston. A graduate of Hobart College, he has lived on the North Shore for more than 20 years, currently residing in Hamilton, with his wife Amanda and their two daughters.
“I am excited to serve as a trustee for Montserrat,” Hamilton said. “As a long time North Shore resident, I had totally underappreciated how unique and innovative the college is. I am really looking forward to getting involved with the Montserrat community and helping the organization grow its reach and further its legacy of creativity and diversity.”
Montserrat College of Art is a private, residential college of visual art and design supporting the creative life by educating artists and entrepreneurs for a rapidly changing world. At the intersection of art, design and technology, the college offers three international programs, 12 concentrations and a required internship program.
Montserrat alumni are employed by some of the country's biggest brands including Disney, Puma, Hasbro and more. Students earn the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and develop their skills for success in today's growing creative economy.
