Zoots Customers Could Get Clothes Back Soon: Bankcruptcy Judge

Zoots Dry Cleaner customers were left out to hang after the dry cleaners filed for bankruptcy last week. Now a plan is in the works.

BEVERLY, MA — Good news if you have your winter wardrobe locked away at a Zoots in Eastern Massachusetts: Zoots Dry cleaners was granted permission to temporarily reopen stores by a bankruptcy Judge at a hearing Thursday. The news comes less than a week after the company declared bankruptcy and abruptly closed all the shops with not so much as a heads up notice to customers or employees beforehand, according to those who worked there.

A number of people took to social media in shock, wondering what it would mean for them and how they should get their garments back - some of which were still being delivered the Saturday after Zoots shuttered, according to Facebook posts.

WBZ reported Zoots management will meet this Friday to create a plan of action. But it looks like all of the locations will reopen for a day or two so that customers can come get their garments back.

The Brockton-based chain filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy Jan. 19. One Beverly employee told Patch that there was a managers call the next day, and when the manager got off the phone that's when the employees got the news and were told to stop work and go home.

"Zoots has closed its doors and is no longer open for business," the company said in the email to customers and posted to Facebook Friday.

"Please be patient as plans are being made to get your garments back to you. You will get further information via email and notices on posted at our stores," it read. But the post was later taken down and it appears the Facebook Page was closed.

A private trustee appointed by a branch of the US Department of Justice to the Zoots case, told the Boston Globe he had been contacted by a party interested in acquiring the company.
