16-Year-Old Arrested After Being Found With Loaded Firearm In Boston: PD

BOSTON, MA — A 16-year-old was arrested after being found with a loaded firearm in Boston Saturday afternoon, police said.

According to the Boston Police Department, at about 4:33 p.m., officers assigned to the South Boston and Hyde Park Drug Control Units conducted a stop in the area of Blue Hill Avenue, which resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old juvenile male from Roxbury for multiple firearm-related offenses.

Officers were assigned to the Caribbean Festival and conducting directed patrols in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Castlegate Street, police said.

Officers were walking outbound on Blue Hill Avenue when one officer observed the 16-year-old male trailing behind a group, police said.

Next, the officers observed the male to be "hypervigilant, looking to his left and right and observing his surroundings," police said.

Officers also observed the 16-year-old’s left arm pinned to his side, while his right arm swayed in a normal manner, police said.

Having changed direction, the officers noticed that the group had taken notice of the their position and began to quicken their pace, police said.

Officers continued to observe the group and noticed that the 16-year-old male was now walking in front of the group, creating a greater distance between himself and the officers, police said.

After further observation, officers approached the 16-year-old male and took control of his arm, police said.

Officers heard the distinct sound of a metallic object striking the ground and observed a black firearm that had fallen from the male’s waistband, police said; they then immediately and safely placed the male in handcuffs, police said.

Detectives then processed the firearm, which was determined to be a black Smith & Wesson Bodyguard, police said. The firearm was loaded with a total of seven rounds of .380 ammunition, with one round loaded in the chamber, police said.

The 16-year-old juvenile was expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on charges including delinquent to wit: carrying a firearm without a license; delinquent to wit: carrying a loaded firearm without a license; and delinquent to wit: possession of ammunition without an FID card, police said.
