2021 Boston Marathon Winner Diana Kipyokei Loses Title
Kipyokei has been banned by the Boston Athletic Association for six years after a urine sample on marathon day revealed doping.

BOSTON, MA — Diana Kipyoeki, the reigning female runner of the 2021 Boston Marathon, has officially been stripped of her title for doping and tampering, the Athletics Integrity Unit announced Tuesday.
Kipyokei has been banned by the Boston Athletic Association for six years after a urine sample she provided following her October 2021 Boston Marathon victory revealed a metabolite of the steroid Triamcinolone Acetonide, according to the unit.
In addition, the Athletics Integrity Unit said Kipyokei provided false information in an attempt to explain the findings in her urine sample, including a fake hospital document.

Kipyokei's six-year ineligibility period began on June 27, the date she was provisionally suspended, according to the Athletics Integrity Unit.
As a result of Kipyokei's disqualification, Edna Kiplagat of Kenya has been elevated to women’s open division champion of the 125th Boston Marathon, and is now recognized as a two-time Boston winner (2017 and 2021), the Boston Athletic Association announced Tuesday.
