$250K Bail For Fugitive In Double-Stabbing Case

Police finally caught up with the Hyde Park man on Sunday, more than a year after he allegedly stabbed a former lover and another woman.

BOSTON, MA — A man who authorities finally got ahold of was held on $250,000 bail at his arraignment Monday, more than a year after he allegedly stabbed his former lover and a woman who tried to help her. Jeffrey Labathe, 27, of Hyde Park was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on two counts of armed assault with intent to murder in the November 2016 incident, as well as single counts of strangulation, assault and battery on a family or household partner, and aggravated burglary.

Prosecutors said Labathe visited the Huntington Avenue home of a former romantic partner on Nov. 15, 2016, to get some belongings. He allegedly stabbed, choked, and beat the woman, and stabbed a female member of her family who tried to help. Both women were transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital, and prosecutors said the first woman's injuries were so severe that the Boston Police Homicide Unit was notified.

A warrant was issued for Labathe's arrest, but he eluded police until Sunday, when he was apprehended in Roxbury. Labathe was indicted by a grand jury in Jan. 2017.

"This was a terrifying and nearly deadly case of domestic violence," Suffolk County DA Dan Conley said.

If Labathe posts bond, he must wear a GPS monitor and have no contact with the victims.
