BOSTON, MA — One of Boston's signature summer traditions is returning next month with Italian food, live entertainment and a weekend-long celebration honoring the patron saint of Naples.
The annual San Gennaro Feast will take place Friday, Aug. 21 through Sunday, Aug. 23 at the Paul Revere Mall on Hanover Street in Boston's North End.
Organized by the Saint Gennaro Foundation of Boston, the three-day event will feature more than three dozen food vendors and North End restaurants, including Bricco, Café Dello Sport, Aqua Pazza, Forcella and Trattoria il Panino.
Visitors can also enjoy live music, DJs, dancing, a beer garden, raffles and family-friendly activities throughout the weekend.
The celebration concludes Sunday with an outdoor Mass led by the priests of Saint Leonard's Church, followed by the traditional procession of the statue of San Gennaro through the North End, honoring the patron saint of Naples.
Proceeds from this year's feast will again benefit autism awareness organizations, including A Voice for Mikey, a nonprofit that helps families access therapies, educational resources and other support for children with autism.
Founded by parents Michael Intoccia and Marilyn Zambrzycki in honor of their son, Mikey, the organization partners with the San Gennaro Feast to raise money for families who cannot afford critical autism-related services.
The Saint Gennaro Foundation of Boston is a nonprofit organization founded by Pasquale Trotta, Frank DePasquale and Angelo Vigliotta. The foundation says proceeds from the annual feast support organizations serving children with autism.
The feast opens at 4 p.m. Friday with DJ Steven Virgilio, followed by Dr. K's Motown Review at 8 p.m. before festivities end at 11 p.m.
Saturday's schedule begins at noon with music from DJ Steven Virgilio, a special guest performance from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and Soul Legends featuring Russell Thompkins Jr. and The New Stylistics from 8:30 to 10 p.m.
On Sunday, the outdoor Mass begins at noon, followed by the San Gennaro procession at 1 p.m. Entertainment includes Autism Rocks, The Italian Connection Band and Vinyl Groove before the feast concludes at 10 p.m.
More information about the event is available at the Saint Gennaro Foundation's website here.
