The case was primarily handled by the department's Youth Violence Strike Force.

BOSTON, MA — A Somerville juvenile is facing multiple charges after Boston Police recovered a loaded handgun Thursday in Roxbury.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested at approximately 10:40 p.m. near 62 Forest St. after officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force saw a large group of people congregating in front of the address. Officers noticed the teen begin running after seeing police and pursued him through the neighborhood before briefly losing sight of him behind 339 Dudley St.

After catching up with the teen as he exited the rear of the property, officers detained him and retraced his path, police said. Officers reportedly recovered a .38 Llama Max-I 38 Super L/F handgun loaded with seven rounds of ammunition that had been discarded along the teen's path.

The teenager is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, receiving an untraceable firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and trespassing.
