"Our thoughts and prayers are with this child, and it is our sincere hope he makes a full recovery," Sullivan told Patch. "This incident underscores the inherent extreme danger of 'Train Surfing'. It could literally cost you your life."

According to the Boston Carmen's Union Local 589, the child fell from the roof of a northbound train before the motorperson of a southbound train stopped and helped rescue him.

"We are grateful to the operator whose swift actions helped save this person from a possible tragedy," Local 589 President Jim Evers said. "This incident highlights why it's so important to have trained transportation professionals out there helping keep the public safe."

The incident remains under investigation by the MBTA Transit Police.
