BOSTON, MA — A man was arrested on charges related to using camera-equipped sunglasses to record children at Frog Pond, the Boston Police Department announced.
Mark Sullivan, 60, of Brockton, was arrested at approximately 6 a.m. Tuesday near 162 Warren Ave. in Brockton by Boston police and U.S. Marshals. He was arrested on a warrant charging him with photographing sexual or intimate parts of a child.
The charge stems from an incident reported at approximately 1 p.m. this past Friday.
According to police, officers responded to the area after receiving a report of a person and spoke with multiple witnesses who said Sullivan had been recording children at the playground using sunglasses equipped with a camera and his cellphone.
Witnesses reportedly told officers Sullivan used the glasses to record a family attempting to change their children while they were wrapped in towels for privacy. Police said the family attempted to move away from Sullivan, but he followed them while scanning the children with the camera-equipped sunglasses.
After witnesses confronted Sullivan, he removed the sunglasses and attempted to break them with his hands, police said.
Sullivan told officers a group of people had pulled the glasses from his face and assaulted him. Police seized the damaged sunglasses and his cellphone.
Officers were unable to immediately locate the family involved because they had already left the area.
Police said an inquiry revealed Sullivan was registered with the Sex Offender Registry. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
