BOSTON, MA — A Roxbury man is facing multiple firearm and drug charges after Boston Police recovered a loaded handgun, crack cocaine and synthetic marijuana following a traffic stop and foot pursuit, according to the Boston Police Department.
Leonard Lomax, 34, was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 15, after officers assigned to District A-1 conducted a traffic stop near 100 Arch St. at approximately 10:40 p.m. Officers had seen Lomax drive a vehicle to the area and knew from previous encounters that he did not have a valid driver's license.
As officers approached the vehicle, Lomax reportedly got out with a backpack slung over his shoulder. While speaking with officers, Lomax reportedly handed the backpack to another person who had approached the area and began walking away. Police stopped the person and retrieved the backpack.
Lomax then fled on foot down Arch Street, prompting a pursuit involving multiple officers. Police said a physical struggle occurred as officers attempted to place Lomax in handcuffs before he was ultimately taken into custody.
Officers searched the backpack and reportedly found a wooden box containing a large quantity of crack cocaine and K2 synthetic marijuana. During an inventory search of the vehicle, police also recovered a Glock 19 handgun with an obliterated serial number and a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition, along with $617 in cash.
Lomax is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, trafficking cocaine, two counts of possession with intent to distribute a Class C substance, two counts of possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, subsequent offense, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, receiving an untraceable firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, subsequent offense, improper storage of a large-capacity firearm, and a firearm violation with two prior violent or drug crimes.
