BOSTON, MA — A popular sandwich shop in Boston will temporarily close after four years in business.
Fresh Boston announced it would close its South Boston restaurant at 232 Old Colony Ave., citing that challenges facing the small business had become too difficult to overcome. The business did not announce a final day of service or provide a timeline for reopening, but said its Cambridge location will remain open.
"This isn't the ending we hoped for," the restaurant said. "We poured everything we had into this restaurant, and while this chapter is coming to an end, we are incredibly proud of what we built together."
Fresh Boston opened in South Boston in November 2022, building on a Nantucket business that launched in 2008, according to Time Out. The South Boston location combined a deli, bar, liquor store and restaurant offering sandwiches, salads, juices, brunch and dinner items.
In its closing announcement, Fresh Boston thanked its employees, customers and neighbors for supporting the restaurant.
"Fresh Boston was never just a restaurant," the business said. "It was a community — and that community is what we will cherish most."
Fresh Boston's Cambridge location is inside CanalSide Food Hall at 100 CambridgeSide Place. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
