2. Boston man charged in Downtown Crossing shooting, officials say (bostonglobe.com) — Boston prosecutors say surveillance and ballistics evidence link a local man to a July 9 shooting in Downtown Crossing, and he's now facing firearms-related charges. Boston police arrested him in Dorchester after a chase where they allegedly recovered a stolen, loaded handgun from his backpack. He remains in custody and is due back in court Sept. 18.
3. Boston Police urge drink spiking precautions as new school year starts (bostonherald.com) — Boston Police are urging residents, especially students returning for the new school year, to take drink-spiking risks seriously after dozens of incidents were reported citywide in recent years. Officers recommend only accepting drinks directly from staff, keeping beverages in sight, using covers or test strips, and seeking immediate help if you or a friend feel suddenly unwell or disoriented.
4. Boston Police Blotter: Man shot dead in Roxbury (bostonherald.com) — Boston Police are investigating a deadly weekend shooting on Warren Street in Roxbury, the city's 14th homicide by gunfire this year. The latest blotter also details arrests tied to the Caribbean Festival, an assault on two Boston EMS workers, and several firearms and other charges across Dorchester, Mattapan, Brighton, and nearby communities.
5. MIT student has 'no signs' of mercury exposure after potential highly toxic chemical leak (boston.com) — An MIT graduate student who reported possible exposure to highly toxic dimethyl mercury is showing no signs of mercury in their blood, but a key lab building near Boston remains closed for specialized decontamination. Boston Fire's Hazmat team and Cambridge officials say the small spill was contained in a hood, and MIT has cleaned common areas and notified people who may have been nearby as a precaution.
