19-Year-Old Arrested With Loaded Ghost Gun In Boston

A simple traffic stop turned into a fairly significant arrest.

BOSTON, MA — A man is facing multiple firearm charges after Boston Police recovered a loaded ghost gun during a traffic stop Saturday evening.

Kyle Cooper, 19, of Dorchester, was arrested at approximately 6:30 p.m. after officers saw a vehicle with extremely dark window tint near Blue Hill Avenue and Glenway Street. A check of the vehicle's registration showed it had been revoked and was uninsured and unregistered, police said.

Officers initiated a traffic stop near 37 Glenway St. and asked the driver to provide a license and registration. Due to the dark tint, officers also asked for the windows to be rolled down and reportedly saw that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts and multiple marijuana cigarettes were inside an ashtray in the center console.

Police told the occupants to exit the vehicle because it would need to be towed. During an inventory search, officers reportedly recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle. Cooper then allegedly attempted to run from the scene before he was quickly taken into custody.

The firearm was determined to be a ghost gun with one round in the chamber and an unloaded magazine capable of holding 15 rounds. Officers also recovered four loose rounds of ammunition from a backpack.

Cooper is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
