Racist Language Accusations Prompt Investigation At BC High

It may take a lot of work to prove or disprove these accusations.

BOSTON, MA — Boston College High School has launched an internal investigation after students were accused of using racist language during an encounter outside the school last week.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, Sept. 17, at Dominic J. Bianculli Boulevard as UMass Boston senior Carly Nguyen and her mother were leaving the nearby university campus. Nguyen said teenage boys traveling in another vehicle shouted racial slurs and made offensive gestures toward them. Nguyen began recording after the language was used, meaning the slurs themselves are not captured in the videos posted online.

"We are aware of the TikTok videos alleging use of racist language by students and immediately launched an internal investigation into the matter," BC High said in a statement. "The alleged behavior is entirely unacceptable and fundamentally contradicts our mission as a Jesuit, Catholic institution."

School officials became aware of the videos Thursday evening. BC High has not publicly said how many students were involved.

"Racism in any form will not be tolerated at BC High," the school said. "We acknowledge the harm caused by these actions and affirm that every individual, both within and beyond our school community, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect."

The school said it will take appropriate disciplinary action under school policies after its investigation.
