Boston Man Federally Charged With Kidnapping And Gun Offense

The Roxbury man is prohibited from possessing a firearm due to his prior state court convictions, including one for armed robbery

BOSTON, MA — A man has been charged in federal court on charges related to kidnapping a victim from their Rhode Island home and leading police on a chase along Interstate 93, according to the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts.

Dominic Hampton-Boyd, 31, of Roxbury, was charged with kidnapping and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Hampton-Boyd is currently being held in state custody on related charges and is expected to appear in federal court in Boston at a later date.

The case stems from an incident on Aug. 12, when Hampton-Boyd reportedly entered the victim's Rhode Island home without their knowledge. Federal prosecutors said Hampton-Boyd struck the victim on the side of the forehead with a pistol and choked them after entering the home. He then directed the victim outside and into a car, asking them if they wanted to "die here or in Boston."

According to court records, Hampton-Boyd then drove the victim across state lines into Massachusetts. The victim attempted to exit the vehicle several times but was unable to before eventually managing to call 911.

Law enforcement attempted to stop the vehicle following the 911 call, but Hampton-Boyd accelerated and struck several vehicles while traveling on I-93. He eventually crashed the car and attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended. Investigators recovered a privately made Glock-style semiautomatic firearm loaded with 9mm ammunition from the vehicle.

Hampton-Boyd is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition because of previous state convictions, including an armed robbery conviction in Suffolk Superior Court.

The kidnapping charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison, five years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The felon in possession charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000.

The case was investigated by the FBI with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Massachusetts State Police, East Providence Police Department, and the Norfolk District Attorney's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Allegra Flamm and Aidan Lang are prosecuting the case.
