Boston Traffic Stop Leads To 4 Arrests And Gun Recovery

This traffic stop became much more when three out of four occupants had arrest warrants.

BOSTON, MA — Four people were arrested on firearm, drug, and outstanding warrant charges after Boston Police recovered a loaded handgun during a traffic stop Monday evening.

Starlin Bonnet, 24, of Roslindale, Edwin Pinet, 40, of Roslindale, Brendan McManus, 36, of Hyde Park, and Jessica Colby, 36, of Hanson, were arrested after officers stopped a vehicle at approximately 6:15 p.m. near American Legion Highway.

Officers were conducting a directed patrol near the Franklin Field area when they saw a black Honda sedan idling near Westview Way and Ames Street with heavily tinted windows. Police later saw the vehicle turn right onto Blue Hill Avenue despite a posted "No Turn on Red" sign and without using a turn signal before eventually stopping it near American Legion Highway.

As officers approached the vehicle, Bonnet, who was driving, reportedly reached behind the front seats toward the rear passenger-side floor before returning to an upright position. Police also saw a black fanny pack on the floor near one of the passengers.

Officers determined that Pinet, McManus and Colby all had active arrest warrants and ordered the occupants out of the vehicle. During a pat-down frisk of Bonnet, police reportedly recovered a knife.

Officers then searched the vehicle and found the fanny pack, which reportedly contained a Taurus G3 9mm handgun loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, including one in the chamber. Police determined that none of the four occupants had a license to carry.

During a booking search of Bonnet, officers also reportedly recovered several bags containing substances believed to be heroin and crack cocaine, along with two additional rounds of ammunition.

Bonnet is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on firearm and ammunition charges, possession of Class A and Class B substances, and multiple motor vehicle violations.

Pinet is expected to be arraigned on an outstanding warrant involving larceny offenses, while McManus had three warrants involving drug possession. Colby had four outstanding warrants involving distribution of a Class A substance, drug possession, motor vehicle offenses, and shoplifting, according to police.
