1. Boston School To Receive Dozens Of New Books Through Award (patch.com) — Students at Boston's John D. O'Bryant School in Roxbury are set to receive more than 50 new, student-selected books and a visit from Newbery Medal–winning author Renée Watson through the Boston Book Festival's Shelf Help award. The program strengthens a key Boston school library with both research materials and popular manga and graphic novels, while also tying into the free Boston Book Festival in Copley Square later this month.
2. Build617 Opens Free Founders Space in Downtown Boston (high-profile.com) — A new free Founders Space has opened in downtown Boston, giving early-stage and AI-focused startups no-cost workspace backed by local real estate firm Synergy and community group Build617. City officials joined the ribbon-cutting as organizers positioned downtown as an emerging AI hub, already hosting more than 20 companies and aiming to keep Boston-grown founders building their businesses locally.
3. Dorchester woman identified in deadly Faulkner Hospital crash (wcvb.com) — A 68-year-old Dorchester woman was killed Thursday when an SUV struck her as she sat on a bench outside Faulkner Hospital in Boston, also hitting a gas line and forcing evacuations from the Belkin House building. Police say the crash does not appear deliberate, no charges have been filed, and the Belkin House facility remains closed while the investigation continues.
4. Boston Arts Academy custodian honored for kidney donation that helped save teacher's brother (wcvb.com) — At Boston Arts Academy, a custodian was honored on National Custodian Day for donating a kidney that helped a teacher's brother receive a life-saving transplant. The school celebrated its entire custodial team while highlighting how this act of faith-driven generosity created a lasting bond between two Boston families and gave a local resident a second chance at life.
5. Councilor Ed Flynn accuses Boston Mayor Wu of directing MBTA to take down ads criticizing BPS (bostonherald.com) — Boston families may notice controversial education ads disappearing from MBTA trains and buses after a nonprofit's $1.5 million campaign criticizing Boston Public Schools was pulled for violating T advertising rules. City Councilor Ed Flynn blames Mayor Michelle Wu, while the mayor and MBTA deny city involvement, sparking a broader fight over censorship, student performance, and school funding priorities.
