BOSTON, MA — A man is facing multiple firearm charges after police recovered a loaded handgun during a traffic stop in Dorchester Sunday night, according to the Boston Police Department.
Johnny Williams Delacruz, 27, of Quincy, was arrested at approximately 9:17 p.m. near 54 Washington St. after officers initially saw him walking away from a vehicle near 156 Washington St.
Officers queried the vehicle and determined the registered operator's license was suspended. Police said Delacruz subsequently entered and exited the vehicle several times before eventually driving away from the area.
Officers initiated a traffic stop near 54 Washington St. and told Delacruz why he had been stopped. As he exited the vehicle, officers reportedly noticed that the gear shift box and radio had been tampered with, leaving an open space inside the vehicle.
Police said officers then saw the handle of a firearm inside the radio casing and took Delacruz into custody. The weapon was determined to be a Glock 19 Gen 5 9mm handgun loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.
Delacruz is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, receiving stolen property, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
He was also issued a Massachusetts uniform citation for violating auto laws.
