BOSTON, MA — Residents still have time to vote for the next voice heard throughout Boston Logan International Airport.

Public voting in the Massachusetts Port Authority's "Voice of Logan" contest opened Saturday, Oct. 24, and will remain open through Wednesday, Oct. 28. Massachusetts residents who are at least 18 years old can listen to recordings of the eight finalists and select their choice through the contest website. Votes submitted through social media or emailed directly to the airport will not count.

The eight finalists were announced Monday, Oct. 19, during an appearance with Gov. Maura Healey and Massport CEO Rich Davey on Kiss 108. They include Meagan Lewis-Michelson of Malden, Christopher Donisi of Burlington, Phyllis Thibodeaux Beach of Mattapan, Alex Marcin of Chelmsford, Ashley Cook of Lynn, Samantha Edwards of Boston, Max German of Dorchester and Kristin Ingala of South Dennis.

The finalists have backgrounds in education, performing arts, trades, and law. Lewis-Michelson was born in Malden and raised in Everett and is a musical theater performer and professor at Berklee College of Music. Donisi grew up in East Arlington and entered the competition after his mother encouraged him to audition. German is a third-year Boston College Law School student, while Ingala has family roots in Boston's North End and now bartends on Cape Cod while pursuing boxing.

More than 5,000 people submitted auditions for the competition, which initially called for up to five finalists. The field was expanded following the response, with the official contest rules updated Thursday, Oct. 8, to allow up to eight finalists to advance to a live audition.

Massport launched the contest Monday, Sept. 14, giving Massachusetts residents who are at least 18 years old until Sunday, Oct. 4, to submit a video audition. Contestants were required to record themselves reading a provided script and upload the video through the contest website, along with a brief statement explaining why they should be selected.

Submissions were judged with 40 percent of the score based on the Boston Logan "Vibe," followed by 20 percent each for clarity and smooth delivery. Another 10 percent was based on authenticity and the remaining 10 percent on the contestant's explanation of why they wanted to represent Logan.

The live audition score will make up 80 percent of each finalist's final total, while public voting will account for the remaining 20 percent. The finalist with the highest combined score will be named "The Voice of Logan," with the winner expected to be announced Thursday, Nov. 5, on "Billy & Lisa in the Morning" on Kiss 108.

Approximately 43 million travelers pass through Logan each year, and the winner is expected to record greetings along with information about airport concessions and ground transportation options. The new announcements are expected to begin welcoming travelers in mid-November.
