Holocaust Memorial In Boston Vandalized Again

A 17-year-old from Malden was taken into police custody after being detained by two bystanders, police said.

BOSTON, MA — For the second time this summer, the New England Holocaust Memorial in Boston has been vandalized. Monday night at about 6:40 p.m., police responded to a call of vandalism. Witnesses told police that a person shattered one of the memorial's glass panes before running away,

The suspect, identified by police as a 17-year-old from Malden, was taken into police custody after being detained by two bystanders, police said. He will be charged with willful and malicious destruction of property.

The last time memorial was last damaged was only about six weeks ago. In June, a 21-year-old Roxbury resident with a history of mental illness allegedly shattered a pane of glass.

Mayor Marty Walsh wrote on Twitter, "Today & every day Boston stands up against hate. I'm saddened to see such a despicable action in this great city. Thankful to public and @bostonpolice for quick arrest of the person responsible for vandalizing Holocaust Memorial."

The incident remains under police investigation to determine if additional charges are pending.
