Boston Marathon 2021 Registration Postponed
The BAA decided to hold off until health experts have a better understanding of where the COVID-19 situation will be in April.

BOSTON — The Boston Athletic Association has indefinitely postponed registration for the 2021 Boston Marathon amid the coronavirus pandemic
Registration was slated to start this month, but association officials, in conjunction with city and state health officials, decided to hold off until health experts have a better understanding of where the COVID-19 situation will be in April.
The Association also announced the formation of the COVID-19 Medical and Events Operations Advisory Group to advise the association's leadership regarding the pandemic. The group is made up of medical and public safety officials, as well as city and state leaders.

"September is usually a time for the B.A.A. to begin opening registration for April’s Boston Marathon and planning for an already established field size," Association CEO Tom Grilk said. "We know, however, that we cannot open registration until we have a better understanding of where the virus may be in the spring."
The 2020 Boston Marathon, originally scheduled for April 20, was postponed to September 14 by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh. But on May 28, Walsh’s canceled the marathon as a live, mass event and announced it would be held virtually from Sept. 5 to 14.
