Is Boston Media Not Reporting On Hughes's 2025 Mayoral Campaign?

In the city of Boston, Massachusetts (one of the largest U.S. cities to have never elected a Black man as its mayor), there's another mayoral candidate, besides Josh Kraft (the son of Billionaire Robert Kraft), who is also seeking to replace Boston's current mayor in 2026. His name is Jaha (Jay) Hughes.

And, according to 2025 Boston mayoral candidate Hughes's campaign website, in his view:

"We must have the hard discussions.

"5,202 homeless humans are living in shelters and on the streets. This is appalling! We need to do something about this!

"Bike lanes have made the downtown area a parking fiasco! How do we make this work for everyone?

"With no parking, doing work with DoorDash and UberEats are a very risky task. Will delivery zones work?

"Our school kids are at risk of being in great danger. Trained Security? We must protect them!

"What? More condos? We need more affordable housing! People are leaving the city in droves. Let's bring the people back to Boston!."

Yet although Mr. Hughes's campaign website wants to "have the hard discussions" related to the above issues (as well as to other issues, apparently, in which his political viewpoints might not be shared by most local Boston journalists who aren't employed by the Boston Herald), most local Boston media outlets appear to be going out of their way to not provide any local mass media coverage of, or media access to, 2025 Boston mayoral candidate Hughes.

In an April 10, 2025 tweet on his X account, for example, Mr. Hughes stated:

"As I run for Mayor I am shut out by the media and the new media. There are some accounts who attack Mayor Wu all day but will not chat with me."

And, after noting in an April 11, 2025 tweet on his X account, that "no media" showed up for an originally planned April 11, 2025 formal "announcement" of his 2025 Boston mayoral candidacy, Mr. Hughes then also observed in an April 12, 2025 tweet on his X account that, although his campaign "reached out to all media discussing my campaign, my proposals and plans for a better Boston for all," he has "received no responses, questions or comments."

But, according to another tweet on his X account, "on April 16th," Mr. Hughes plans to "go to City Hall to officially declare" his "candidacy for Mayor of the amazingly strong and resilient Boston."
