Boston Police Officer Charged With Drunk Driving
The officer has been put on administrative leave during the investigation into a New Year's Day crash that injured two.

BOSTON, MA – A Boston police officer has been charged with drunk driving in a New Year's Day crash that injured two. Officer Domenic Columbo was off-duty when he allegedly crashed into another car near Columbia Road and Ceylon Street, police said. The driver of the second car was hospitalized with minor injuries, and the passenger was seriously injured but is expected to survive.
Columbo was hospitalized and later released. He has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation into the crash.
Columbo was charged Monday with operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury. A hearing is scheduled for Feb. 1 at 2:30 p.m.

"My officers are expected to abide by the same laws they are sworn to uphold. No one is above the law, and those who break it will be held accountable," Commissioner William Evans said in a statement. "I am happy to hear that all those injured will recover, and I take this opportunity to remind everyone not to drink and drive."
Columbo has been a Boston police officer for six years. He has not faced any prior discipline, according to police.
