Police Commissioner Bill Evans told reporters later that the collision happened because the bikes' wheels locked together. A number of parade goers stopped to help, according to reports.
Scanner reports indicated the officers down and photos taken from the scene showed a heavy police presence at the corner of Beacon and Joy about halfway up the hill from the Public Garden to the State House.
