Boston Winter Storm Hub: How Much Snow and When It Will Stop

BOSTON, MA - A lot of wet, heavy snow was being dropped on Boston Friday morning. The storm is expected to taper off in the late afternoon. Here’s what you need to know:
- There is expected to be about nine inches of snow in Boston by the time the storm leaves around 5 p.m.
- A winter storm warning was issued for Eastern Massachusetts until 5 p.m.
- Logan Airport was experiencing delays and cancellations.
- The MBTA is running a normal Friday schedule, but there are some delays.
- A snow emergency has not been declared, meaning no space-saving parking spots.
- The speed limit on the Mass Turnpike from Weston outward has been lowered to 40 miles per hour, and the HOV lane on 93 is closed for the afternoon commute.
- A winter storm watch was issued late Thursday morning. It will be in effect from Friday 1 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Boston Public Schools are closed Friday. All after-school actives are also cancelled.
- Trash pick-up started at 6 a.m.
- The Public Works Department had 500 trucks pre-treating roads in Boston.
- Boston has more than 40,000 tons of salt available for street work.
