St. Patrick's Day Parade Boston 2017 Guide: Parade Route, Street Closures, MBTA

Here's what you need to know about the historic parade this Sunday.

BOSTON, MA – Through snow and controversy, Boston's Evacuation Day/St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place this Sunday. The parade officially begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, but you may see one or two people in the streets getting an early start.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade will carry A snow-shortened route will start at Broadway Station is ending at Farragut Road instead of looping toward Old Colony Ave. Hundreds of thousands are expected to watch the parade, but the threat of snow on top of what Tuesday's storm dumped could dampen the turnout a bit.

Liquor stores will close at 4 p.m. and bars will close at 7 p.m. Underage and public drinking will not be tolerated, police have warned.

Attendees are advised to take the Red Line to South or Andrew Stations. According to the MBTA, customers may take the train to Broadway, but the Red Line may bypass the station at certain times throughout the day due to heavy crowds. Those taking the T should allow ample commuting time and seek out alternate areas to watch the parade other than Broadway.

Starting around 9:45 a.m. on March 19, bus routes that normally service Broadway or Andrew Stations will be halted. Bus Routes 9, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 47 will be detoured around the parade area. Bus Route 7 – normally inactive on Sundays – will operate between South Station and City Point beginning at 7 a.m. Trips from South Station will operate on the hour, with the last trip at 6 p.m. Trips from City Point will operate on the half hour, with the last trip at 6:30 p.m.

From 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., shuttle bus service will be provided to and from the Summer Street side of South Station, Summer Street and East 1st Street in South Boston.
