Boston Streets Flooded, Cars Trapped

The rising tide flooded areas along the Boston Seaport Thursday.

BOSTON, MA – Massive flooding closed several streets along the Seaport and in other areas of Boston Thursday. Record tides, heavy winds and fast-falling snow caused water to rush through the roads, trapping people in their vehicles. Emergency crews rescued flood victims who were trapped on State and Atlantic streets, and several cars were stuck in the icy slush.

In terms of the rising tide, the snowstorm passed Blizzard of '78 levels. The National Weather Service said Thursday the tide in Boston broke that mark, making it the highest on record since 1921.

First responders shared photos of the rising water as they checked cars for stranded people. Boston firefighters rescued a man from a flooded car in Neponset Circle (above photos). Meanwhile, at the Seaport, a boat rose to street level. Join Boston Patch for more local news and real-time alerts, including about this storm!
