Brighton Man Identified As Victim In Weekend Boston Shooting

BOSTON, MA — A 33-year-old man from Brighton was shot and killed over the weekend in Dorchester, according to Boston police.

Derrell Russell was found with a gunshot wound at a shopping plaza along Blue Hill Avenue near the south end of Harambee Park just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Russell later died at a local hospital, police said.

Boston police did not immediately announce any arrests related to the killing.

Russell was the 21st homicide victim in Boston so far in 2022. Boston's last homicide happened on Aug. 13 when Dion Ruiz was found shot near 58 West Dedham St. in the South End.
