Bruins' Matt Grzelcyk Day-To-Day; Blues' Sundqvist Suspended

The NHL has suspended Oskar Sundqvist for the hit that injured Grzelcyk, a Charlestown native, in Game 2.

BOSTON, MA — Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist has been suspended one game for the hit that sent Bruins Matt defenseman Matt Grzelcyk to the hospital in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final Wednesday night. Grzelcyk is considered day-to-day and did not make the trip with Boston for Saturday night's Game 3.

Grzelcyk was hammered against the boards by Sundqvist late in the first period. Grzelcyk fell to the ice, grabbing his helmet, and stayed there while the two teams got into it after the whistle.

"Sundqvist adjusts his course, then hits him forcefully from behind with speed, driving him violently into the glass, causing an injury," NHL Player Safety said Thursday evening.

"I don’t think that’s a hit we want in our game," former Blue and current Bruin David Backes said.

The Bruins failed to score on the ensuing power play after Sundqvist was sent off for boarding. The Bruins lost, 3-2, in overtime.
