On Fri., October 30, the National Center for Afro-American Artists (NCAAA) in partnership with Roxbury Community College and HowlRound Theatre Commons present “Christmas in Black: The Enduring Legacy of Langston Hughes’s ‘Black Nativity,’” a lively, free public dialogue exploring the work’s fascinating, complex origins, its evolution in Boston, and its ongoing cultural significance. The event, which takes place at the Roxbury Community College Media Arts Center (1234 Columbus Avenue in Boston) marks the 56th annual production of the beloved, gospel-infused musical play. “Black Nativity” runs December 4-20 at the Emerson Paramount Center. Moderated by award-winning Boston artist Amanda Shea, Princeton University’s Wallace Best and Wesleyan University’s Rashida Shaw McMahon tell the surprising history – and distinctly Boston story – behind the beloved production. Friday, October 30, 6 p.m. at Roxbury Community College Media Arts Center.
