Tree canopy refers to the shade provided by trees in a city. Canopy coverage reflects the percentage of area covered by trees when viewed from above and more mature trees typically have larger canopies. Two resources are available now:

Why does canopy matter? The Urban Forest Plan aims to equitably expand canopy coverage across Boston, on private and public land, so that residents have access to trees and their many benefits, such as shade or rainwater capture. These benefits also include the cultural and social values provided by trees. These values are often not so easily measured, but are still critically important.
