About Billerica Community Pantry Awarded $5,000 from James O’Connell Insurance Agency through Liberty Mutual Insurance Company® and Safeco Insurance® Make More Happen Awards™
Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance are proud to announce that James O’Connell Insurance Agency has earned a 2021 Make More Happen Award, which recognizes its exceptional volunteerism with Billerica Community Pantry and demonstrating its commitment to making a positive change within their community. The award includes a $5,000 donation with a chance to double the amount to $10,000 that will directly benefit Billerica Community Pantry, a nonprofit organization that strives to improve and sustain the quality of life in Billerica, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
Proud Billerica resident, Jim O’Connell, Principal Owner of James O’Connell Insurance Agency, has been directly involved with the Billerica Community Pantry since 2018. O’Connell and his wife Cathy, volunteer their time to ensure food gets into the hands of their neighbors despite the risk exposure to COVID-19 by restocking shelves and assisting in the preparation for their distribution.
Pre-pandemic, the Billerica Community Pantry served approximately 150 families a month, but due to COVID-19, they have served as many as 450 families a month. The $10,000 donation will provide 600 families with food, essential hygiene products and cleaning supplies for two months.
“None of us have ever faced the challenges that 2020 presented and we are honored to support the Billerica Community Pantry to help provide a form of stability to our neighboring families.” said O’Connell. “We are forever grateful to receive this Make More Happen Award from Liberty Mutual and Safeco to provide the pantry with these much needed funds to impact those in our community who need it most.”
Beginning Wednesday, April 21, the story of James O’Connell Insurance Agency and the Billerica Community Pantry will be featured on the official Make More Happen microsite www.AgentGiving.com/James-OCon... allowing the nonprofit a chance to earn the additional $5,000. If the featured story receives at least 500 votes— shares to social media and comments on their story—the donation will be doubled to $10,000.

Throughout 2021, Liberty Mutual and Safeco Insurance will select a total of 34 independent agents nationwide for a Make More Happen Award donating up to $340,000 to the nonprofits they support. Agencies became eligible for the award by submitting an application demonstrating their commitment to a specific nonprofit, along with photos of a project they worked on.
