FBI Broke Into Wrong Hotel Room, Interrogated Wrong Person: Reports

Federal authorities handcuffed an airline pilot and held him for nearly an hour before realizing they had the wrong person, WBZ-TV reported.

BOSTON, MA — Federal agents conducting a training exercise broke into a hotel room in Boston, handcuffing an airline pilot and holding him for nearly an hour before realizing they had the wrong person, according to multiple outlets.

The incident happened around at the Revere Hotel around 10 p.m. Tuesday while the FBI Boston Division was aiding the Department of Defense in a training exercise “to simulate a situation their personnel might encounter in a deployed environment," according to an FBI statement shared with WHDH.

“Based on inaccurate information, they were mistakenly sent to the wrong room and detained an individual, not the intended role player,” the statement continued.

In a statement shared with NBC10 Boston, the FBI said that no one was hurt, but didn't say who was detained.

"Safety is always a priority of the FBI, and our law enforcement partners, and we take these incidents very seriously," the statement to NBC10 continued. "The Boston Division is reviewing the incident with [the U.S. Department of Defense] for further action as deemed appropriate."
