Grandmother Is First MA $1 Million Lottery Winner Of 2023

Ivy Veal-Sanders won the prize on a scratch ticket purchased at her local market.

DORCHESTER, MA — It only took three days before Massachusetts had its first $1 million lottery winner of the new year.

On Jan. 3, Dorchester grandmother Ivy Veal-Sanders hit the seven-figure prize on the scratch ticket "$4,000,000 Money Bags." Veal-Sanders bought the ticket at the New Family Supermarket along Humboldt Avenue in Dorchester.

Veal-Sanders plans to use her $650,000 pre-tax lump payment to pay off her mortgage and pay off her and her grandson's cars, according to the state lottery commission.
