BOSTON, MA — As many as 20 domestic flights out of Logan Airport were delayed Wednesday amid a nationwide Federal Aviation Administration outage — although the agency said systems were returning to normal shortly before 9 a.m.

The FAA first alerted the public to the outage before 7 a.m. Wednesday due to problems with its Notice to Air Missions System. The flight tracking website FlightAware reported 760 delays within, into or out of the U.S. as of about 7 a.m.

Twenty flights out of Logan were delayed as of 8:15 a.m., according to MassPort, including flights to Charlotte, N.C., Chicago-O'Hare and Baltimore. You can check flight statuses on the MassPort website. Those delays grew from fewer than 10 before 7 a.m.

The FAA tweeted near 9 a.m. that it had lifted a hold on ground departures.

"Normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the U.S. following an overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system that provides safety info to flight crews. The ground stop has been lifted," the agency said.
