Former Patriots Star Deatrich Wise Jr. Returns to Boston with a New Team—and a New Breakfast Burrito

Former Patriots defensive end and fan favorite Deatrich Wise Jr. is back in Boston this week — this time with a new team and an unexpected twist: a signature breakfast burrito.

To celebrate his return, Veggie Galaxy, the Cambridge-based vegetarian diner and vegan bakery of which he’s a co-owner, is launching the “Wise 91” – a bold, flavorful breakfast burrito packed with Just Egg, sautéed peppers, onions, spinach, vegan cheese, and vegan sausage.

“I wanted to do something fun and different to show love to the city that’s meant so much to me,” said Wise. “This burrito is packed with energy, flavor, and heart – exactly how I like to play the game.”

Available starting Friday, August 8, the “Wise 91” is inspired by Wise’s #91 jersey and his commitment to healthy living, community engagement, and yes – great food. He has championed plant‑based dining since adopting a 100% vegan lifestyle after his rookie season with the Patriots in 2017. As the co-owner of Veggie Galaxy, he’s making flavorful, plant-based food more accessible and helping to shift the narrative around veganism.

Priced at $13.99, the burrito will be available indefinitely, offering both longtime fans and new customers a taste of Wise’s plant‑based ethos.

Wise was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft and was a mainstay on the defense for eight seasons, during which he was a three-time captain and recorded 314 combined tackles and 34 sacks. He also played a prominent role during the Patriots’ victory in Super Bowl 53 and was the team’s 2024 nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award. This past offseason, he signed with the Washington Commanders.

The Patriots and Commanders will kick off their respective pre-seasons on Friday, August 8 at Gillette Stadium.
