Funeral Services For Fallen Boston Firefighter Announced

BOSTON, MA — Funeral arrangements for the Boston firefighter who was killed in the line of duty this past weekend have been announced.

Robert Kilduff Jr.’s wake is scheduled for Sunday, May 31 between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at St. Theresa of Avila Parish on 2078 Centre St. in West Roxbury. His funeral service will take place the next morning at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross at 1400 Washington St. in Boston. The mass is slated to begin at 10 a.m. on June 1, according to Boston Firefighters IAFF Local 718 Union.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced it will pay off the remaining mortgage on Kilduff’s home as well as remaining education expenses for his two children. The national nonprofit was founded in memory of New York City firefighter Stephen Siller, who was killed in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Tunnel to Towers has multiple core programs that support first responders and veterans with housing and other financial resources.

“Bobby Kilduff embodied and epitomized the purest values of service, risking his life to save others,” the Union said in a statement. “Words cannot give measure or justice to the gravity of this tragic loss.”

Kilduff worked for the Boston Fire Department for 24 years after serving in the United States Marine Corps. He also worked at the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts and was a member of the International Association of Firefighters. He fell from the third floor of the Dorchester home while battling a three-alarm fire on Saturday, May 23 and ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
