Green Line Train Derailed At Packard's Corner

MBTA officials are looking into what caused a Green Line Train to derail this afternoon at Packard's Corner.

BOSTON, MA — A Green Line B train is in the process of being derailed after it skipped the rails this afternoon at Packard's Corner. Five passengers were aboard at the time, according to an MBTA spokesperson.

But none of them reported injuries he said. Shuttle buses are replacing Green Line B branch service from Blanford Street to Washington Street. (What's a few more shuttle stops with the Comm Ave Bridge Construction shut down).

What caused the derailment is under investigation.

This comes after a recent report indicated Boston's MBTA had the most train derailments in the country last year. In 2016 some 6 Green Line trolleys and two heavy rails in Boston jumped the track the last year giving the award for highest number of light rail derailments to the MBTA, according to data released by the National Transit Database.

The MBTA had a total of 20 collisions on light rail lines, two fires, and four security issues reported last year.
