High Lead Levels in 20 Mass. District Schools: Report

Water in a number of schools around the state had tested high for lead, according to a report Monday. So Patch made some calls.

Twenty schools in Massachusetts districts had tested high for lead levels in the water, according to a report Monday by The Boston Globe.

State data obtained by the Globe shows that a small percentage of schools tested - most in 2014 and 2015 - has unacceptably high levels of lead in the water.

Patch's reporting reveals that several of the water sources referenced in the report were not in use at the time.

While the testing isn't new information, the issue is how widespread the situation has become.

According to the Globe, those schools were located in Arlington, Boston, Brewster, Brookline, Burlington, Granby, Halifax, Hopedale, Newton, Northbridge, Pembroke, Reading, Royalston, Sharon, South Hadley, Sterling, Swansea, Wales, Weymouth, and Winthrop.
