MA Weather Forecast: Snow Totals Increase Drastically

Those hoping Massachusetts would skate by this upcoming storm with 3 or 4 inches are about to be vastly disappointed. Sunday evening's forecast calls for nearly all of Central and Eastern Mass. to get between 12-18 inches - with the possibility of 2 feet - assuring a third monster storm in as many weeks.

Power outages, flooding, and blizzard conditions are all in play for a storm that starts Monday night and goes into Tuesday. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for the entire state, high wind watch down the entire coast, and flood warnings in parts of Southeastern Mass. This, yet again, will be a biggie.

A minimum of a foot of snow is expected from Worcester to about Barnstable, with the majority of the area at risk of blizzard conditions. Much of the South Coast and Cape is of particular concern, with "heavy, accumulating, wet, pasty snow along with strong to damaging winds could lead to greater impact with respect to downed limbs, power lines," the NWS said.

The worst-scenario calls for as much as 2 feet from Western Mass. to Boston. The low-end totals could still be around 4-5 inches. One thing the NWS is sure of, it said on Twitter: "We're confident it is going to SNOW."

As Southern New England knows all too well, this is the latest in a string of devastating storms that knocked out power for about 800,000 in Massachusetts the past two weeks. The wind and precipitation from this storm will almost certainly cause many more.
