Making it in the Mass. Film Industry

(Boston, MA) – July 31, 2025 – Calling all aspiring actors and film lovers. FAN EXPO Boston, the three-day pop-culture extravaganza, will feature Mass. Film Industry leaders on a panel, “Making it in the Massachusetts Film Industry” on Friday, August 8, at 6:30pm, in Room 160A on Level 1, at the Thomas M. Menino Convention and Exhibition Center, formerly the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. FAN EXPO attendees will learn firsthand about how to break into the Massachusetts film industry, which has grown significantly over the past 20 years, becoming a major force in the national film and television production landscape.

Massachusetts has established itself as a premier destination for film and television production, thanks to its distinctive and varied locations, highly skilled workforce, and supportive, film-friendly policies. The Massachusetts Film Tax Credit has made a significant contribution to the state’s economy since its creation in 2006. More than 325 productions have filmed in over 235 cities and towns, generating more than $3.2 billion and supporting the creation of tens of thousands of new jobs.

The panel includes the top state official overseeing the MA film industry, producers, actors, casting directors, talent managers, film festival directors and educators who will share their expertise and tell stories about what it is like to make films in Massachusetts. Panelists have worked on Mass.-made films and television series including Academy award-winners The Holdovers, American Fiction, Good Will Hunting, The Departed, Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island, Mystic River, The Crucible, Mystic Pizza, Bucky F*cking Dent, Lightning in a Bottle (in production), I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and The Town.

• Meg Montagnino-Jarrett, Director of the Massachusetts Film Office

• Carolyn Pickman, Founder of CP Casting

• Shaun Clarke, Chair of Emerson College Department of Visual and Media Arts

• Brad Davidson, Founder of Ging Management Group, a full-service management company whose founding client is two-time Golden Globe Winner David Duchovny

• Robin Dawson, Executive Director of the Boston Film Festival and producer of Twin Lights Entertainment

• Naheem Garcia, Local actor, and teaching artist, appeared in The Holdovers

• Joshua Olumide, Local actor, appeared in American Fiction

• Lisa Simmons, Artistic Director and Curator of the Roxbury International Film Festival

The panel is free for FAN EXPO Boston attendees. Fans who have Friday tickets are welcome to participate.
