Man Accused Of Stealing Tip Jar From Boston Bakery

BOSTON, MA — A man is facing multiple charges after stealing a tip jar from a South End bakery and injuring two Boston police officers during his arrest Sunday evening, officials said.

Kobe Nevels, 28, of Brockton, was arrested at approximately 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of West Fourth Street and Frontage Road after officers observed an individual matching the description of a suspect involved in an earlier larceny at 345 Harrison Ave.

Police initially responded to the bakery at approximately 5:06 p.m. after receiving a report of a larceny in progress. Upon arrival, an officer spoke with employees who reported that a man had entered the business, stolen a tip jar and fled the scene.

The suspect reportedly returned to a nearby CVS shortly after the theft. Officers searched the surrounding area but could not locate him, and a description was broadcast throughout the district.

About two hours later, officers patrolling near West Fourth Street and Frontage Road spotted Nevels, who matched the suspect's description. As officers approached, Nevels attempted to flee on foot.

Multiple officers intervened and stopped Nevels, who reportedly began flailing his arms and resisting arrest. Officers issued several verbal commands before eventually placing him into handcuffs.

Two officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the arrest and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Nevels is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of larceny from a building, assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.
