BOSTON, MA — A man who police said unleashed a can of bear repellent on an MBTA train was arrested Tuesday evening. Transit police said Gregory Gomes, 34, of Dorchester, was sitting inside a Red Line train when he took out a large can and sprayed it for a "few seconds." When officers arrived to Andrew Station, Gomes was lying down and shouting, "I accidentally blew it up," revealing the can in his backpack, police said.

Gomes was arrested after what police said was a brief struggle. He was charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.

Three people who were on the train said they had trouble breathing and eye irritation. All three were treated by Boston EMS.
