BOSTON, MA — Boston Councilor Ricardo Arroyo picked up a major endorsement Tuesday in his bid to unseat Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden, days after media reports detailed Hayden's involvement in a cover-up involving a Transit Police officer.

U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, D-MA, urged voters to back Arroyo over Hayden in a tweet that appeared to reference a recent Boston Globe investigation published over the weekend.

"Suffolk County deserves a district attorney who will uphold the law to the highest standards, for the sake of ensuring the public’s trust and the true provision of justice," Markey said in a tweet Tuesday evening.

Over the weekend, a Boston Globe story detailed a case involving Transit Police Officer Jacob Green, who attempted to cover up an incident where he pointed a gun at another driver in Mattapan. Former Suffolk DA Rachael Rollins — now the U.S. Attorney in Boston — launched an investigation into the incident. Hayden took over the DA's office after she left earlier this year.

The Globe report revealed Hayden accepted a campaign donation from Green and his attorney. After the donation, Hayden's office told the officer's lawyer the investigation into the gun pointing incident was over, the paper reported. Hayden's campaign has since returned the donation.
