Massachusetts to Host Major International Climate Change Summit

John Kerry made the announcement at this year's iteration of the summit, being held in Beijing.

Boston will host a large United States-China climate change summit next year, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced Tuesday in Beijing.

It is the third such summit, meant to "further strengthen the US-China bilateral relationship on climate change, as well as the two countries' shared commitment to climate action following the successful Paris Agreement in 2015," according to a statement from the mayor's office.

Next year's summit will bring thousands of urban leaders from the U.S. and China to Boston. Walsh and the Secretary of State made the announcement during the evening plenary session at this year's summit in Beijing, according to the mayor's office.
